Joakim Ingves works as Head of Civil Engineering at the head office in Vaasa.
Tell us about your work!
As Head of Civil Engineering, my work consists of managing the civil team in Finland and developing our Civil Engineering services together with our other global Civil departments. This includes ensuring we have the right competence to be on top within Civil Engineering. Its an interesting and very wide-ranging job – every day is different.
What is your background?
Citec was actually my first employer after I graduated; I worked here a couple of years before working at Wärtsilä for another few years. The following decade, I was in different managerial positions for the City of Kristiinankaupunki, the last four years as Technical Director. In the summer of 2016, I returned to Citec as Manager for the Civil project solution team, and as of January 1, 2017, I was appointed Head of Civil Engineering.
Do you have a favourite moment at work?
Its great to see when we as a team work towards the same goals, and when everybody is performing at their best. When you realise that our global organisation is truly efficient and we work as One Citec no matter where in the world we sit. Good communication is a prerequisite when building top notch global teams – and that is something I think we have at Citec.
How do you deal with challenges?
Having challenges and being able to solve them is a good motivator for me. When stepping into the role as Head, my first challenge was to map our competences and make sure we had the right skill at the right time and at the right place. Its like building a puzzle – and its very rewarding when you find the right places for all the pieces!
And besides your job, what are your interests?
I like to spend time with my family at our summer cottage by the sea. Cooking is a hobby of mine, so in the summer time, youll often find me barbequing. And of course, sauna and swimming is a necessity when were at the cottage. My family consists of my lovely wife Nina and my three children Venla, David and Alicia. We also like to go travelling together.
